Kids’ Electrical Safety Drawing Contest

As part of Festival Hydro’s (FHI) commitment and contribution to Public Safety, and local interest in electrical-awareness education, FHI aims to provide Electrical Safety Awareness programming and communications to adults, children and pre-teens in our service area.

FHI strives to ensure electrical safety information is accessible to all, with a new initiative to empower children and their families and communities to make informed decisions regarding electrical safety with the 1st Annual Kids’ Electrical Safety Drawing Contest, which was offered during the month of April 2025, to children from across Huron and Perth Counties, covering Festival Hydro’s service areas. FHI believes this initiative will help to contribute to safer homes, schools, businesses and neighborhoods in our local communities!

This year’s Kids’ Electrical Safety Drawing Contest theme was “Call Before You Dig!”.

The month of April is #DigSafeMonth! There are underground hazards that we must be aware of. Hitting electric, gas, or other high-pressure pipes and lines could have fatal consequences. We must all prevent damages to protect our communities. You should never assume it is safe to dig. Remember, always “Get the Dirt on All Digs” before starting your next outdoor project and contact Ontario One Call before you dig. It’s easy and it’s the law.

Young artists were encouraged to design an image depicting the contest safety message theme. Festival Hydro’s employees will vote to select two finalists, one in each age group category. Each winner will receive gift and special recognition with their artwork being featured in Festival Hydro’s electrical safety key messaging communication (e.g. on bill inserts, posts on social media, on the corporate website and in safety advertising etc.).
