Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.)
- I did lots of things to conserve electricity this summer. When will I find out if I’m eligible for a rebate?
- Congratulations and thank you for taking steps to conserve electricity – you’ve already begun to save on your electricity costs by reducing how much electricity you use! Your participating local electric utility will be reviewing its customers’ electricity consumption and will be providing your rebates if you met the 10% reduction target. Contact your utility or watch your bill for more information on when rebates will be processed. And remember, you can keep the electricity savings coming all year by continuing with your good electricity conservation habits all year round.
- When will I receive my credit?
- The program ended on August 31st 2007, and the credit will appear on your October electricity bill. The entire credit will be applied on one bill.
- I didn’t do anything to sign up for the program. Did I miss out on being eligible for a rebate?
- There was no need to enroll in the program. If you met the program eligibility requirements, you were automatically enrolled.
- How do I know if I was eligible for the program?
- You were eligible for the program if:
- You are a residential customer who directly receives an electricity bill from Festival Hydro or a retailer
- You had an active account with twelve months billing data at the same premises preceding the program season (July 1, 2006 to July 1, 2007)
- You had an active account at the same premises for the full program season (July 1, 2007 to August 31, 2007)
- I have a seasonal/recreational home and/or bulk metered multi-unit residence. Do I still qualify for the rebate?
- Unfortunately, your residence does not qualify.
- I have a contract with an electricity retailer, and I get a bill from them directly. Was I eligible for the Summer Savings program? How will I get my credit?
- Yes. Since your retailer bills you, Festival Hydro will calculate the credit and provide your electricity retailer the amount of the credit due to you.
- How much of a credit will I will receive?
- This will vary depending on how much electricity you usually use, and by how much you reduce your consumption.
- I wasn’t living in my home last year, can I participate?
- Unfortunately, you will not be eligible for the rebate. Only those with a 12-month billing history at the same address as of July 1, 2007 are eligible.
- I’m moving in mid-August. Can I get a partial rebate?
- Unfortunately, you will not be eligible to receive a rebate since you will not be at your current billing address for the duration of the program.
- Why are you paying people to do something they might do anyway?
- The conservation programs we are offering this summer are designed to provide Ontarians with the tools and information to manage their electricity consumption. This program rewards Ontarians for making the effort to conserve and reinforces smart and responsible electricity consumption.
- I’m sure I wasn’t able to cut my energy consumption by 10% because I’m already doing everything possible to conserve. Why aren’t you running a program that will give me a credit?
- We appreciate everything that you are doing to conserve energy, particularly during the summer months when there is a strain placed on the system. Because of your proactive approach, you have been lowering your monthly costs since you started conserving. Although you may not receive the 10% credit because you are already maximizing your conservation efforts, you really have been saving for a long time.
- What if the weather was a lot different last summer?
- For the purposes of comparison, your participating local electricity utility will make adjustments to your electricity use data to take into account any weather differences between 2006 and 2007.
- What is weather normalization?
- Extreme differences in temperature from summer to summer have a significant impact on many Ontarians’ electricity bill as a result of fluctuating air conditioning use. In order to make the comparison between summers more accurate, consumption will be adjusted to reflect an average summer.
