Play Safe - Stay Safe!

Electricity is all around us in our homes. It is a part of almost everything we do, from watching the television, cooking, turning on a light to read by, or playing with the computer. Electricity is our friend, but it can hurt us if we don't use it safely.

Here are some good rules to follow to stay safe around electricity:

NEVER poke fingers or other objects into electrical outlets, light sockets, or electrical appliances.

Play AWAY from hydro wires and transformers.

Do not climb trees or fly kites near hydro poles or wires.

Water and electricity do not mix! So keep electrical appliances away from swimming pools and bathtubs, make sure you are dry before touching any electrical appliance or light switch, and NEVER aim water at electrical outlets, hydro lines or transformers.

Stay out of areas that are marked with KEEP OUT or DANGER signs. Those signs are there to protect YOU from danger!

On another page on this web site there are more tips for using electricity safely. Visit this page with your parents and talk about these safety rules.

We have put together some fun questions to help you think about electrical safety. Follow Sparxx the Cat around the house and see if you can help him figure out safe ways to solve his problems.
