The Ontario Government has taken 10% off your electricity bill to help you with cost of building a clean energy future.
The Ontario Government has announced the Ontario Clean Energy Benefit which will provide customers with a 10 percent rebate on the total cost of electricity charges related to electricity consumption on their bills including HST. This benefit will be effective with electricity consumed starting January 1, 2011. This rebate will be in effect for five years until December 31, 2015.

Who is Eligible? Residential, seasonal, farm and small business (general service energy‐billed with less than 50 kW demand) customers will be eligible. Basically, if you qualify for the province’s Regulated Price Plan (RPP) two‐tiered prices or Time‐of‐Use (TOU) prices you are eligible for the rebate, including customers enrolled with a retailer and customers on spot as long as they are deemed RPP eligible.
When will I see the Ontario Clean Energy Benefit on my bill? Eligible customers will see the Ontario Clean Energy Benefit on their bills that contain post January 1, 2011 consumption.
What charges are included in the Ontario Clean Energy Benefit? The Ontario Clean Energy Benefit provides a 10% rebate on your total electricity bill. It is taken off the total charge for every month, which includes electricity charges, delivery, regulatory charges, debt retirement charge, Provincial Benefit/Global Adjustment (if applicable) and the HST, for a five year period beginning January 1, 2011.
What charges are not included in the benefit? The Ontario Clean Energy Benefit covers only electricity charges incurred after January 1, 2011. The benefit may not apply to all charges on your bill under the following circumstances: - Your bill includes usage during the period prior to January 1, 2011. - Your bill includes charges such as a security deposit, late payment charges, arrears or other administrative debits or credits from your utility. - You are on equal billing – you will receive a benefit equal to 10% of current eligible electricity charges, like all other consumers. Any associated adjustments to your equal billing payments would be reflected in your equal billing plan over time. - Your bill may include non‐eligible charges such as water charges, sewage charges, or other nonelectric charges.
I have a contract with a retailer. Am I still eligible? Yes, the Ontario Clean Energy Benefit applies to customer bills from a utility or suite‐metering provider. Even if you have a contract with an energy retailer, the OCEB applies.
